About My Mission
Over the summer, I had two incredible experiences that englightmented me in the best possible way.
I took part in a leadership institute at Brown University, specifically women in leadership. Throughout the two weeks, we were asked to make an action plan that reflected an issue in our community as women. Immediately, I thought about the awful crime of sexual assault in our society. My family had been supporting the charity Joyful Heart for 10 years and the charity launched END THE BACKLOG. End the backlog addresses the half a million rape kits backlogged in America. I became dedicated to this charity and made my action plan to help address the backlog. It was unfathomable that all of these kits were sitting in a storage unit and victims were not getting justice, I knew I needed to get involved.
My other experience was voluenteering in Burundi, Africa. It was incredibly eye opening and unlike any place I've ever seen. I was faced with an intense realization of the extreme poverty there. It was unlike anything i’ve ever seen. To see the government owned hospitals that had zero sterilization, none of the proper medicine or equipment, bullet holes in the room, post op rooms outside and no mental health care was heartbreaking. After a 4 hour drive, we arrived at Village Health Works. It was night and day comparing those two clinics. Village Health Works had proper doctors, tools, and it was thriving. It is a spralling campus with a big clinic and a 500 bed surgical hospital in construction. It is a blueprint for work they can do around the world. Village Health Works is such a special place and getting to be apart of that community for a week and volunteer was unforgettable. The moment I heard about the charity, I became passionate but after going I feel even more involved. After getting these two extradionary experiences, the idea to help these causes that have become an important part of my life by creating this website for my birthday was an opportunity I did not want to miss. Please donate to help end the backlog and Village Health Works.
Thank you so much,
Elliott
